What Is a Unique Click?

A unique click groups or deduplicates repeated interactions so they are not all treated as separate new visitors.

A unique click is a metric that tries to reduce the counting of repeated interactions. If the same address is opened five times from a context considered identical, a system might report five total clicks but one unique click. However, the definition of “same” differs among services.

How Are Clicks Deduplicated?

A platform may use a combination of time windows, cookies, accounts, network addresses, devices, or other technical signals. Every method has limitations. One person can use two devices and appear as two unique clicks, while several people on a shared network may be grouped too closely. Private mode, deleted cookies, consent choices, and network changes can also affect the result.

A unique-click count is therefore not an exact count of different humans. It is an estimate produced by platform rules. Do not use it to identify individuals or claim that the number equals unique customers.

How to Read the Metric

  • Compare total clicks with unique clicks to understand repetition
  • Keep the measurement period and definition consistent
  • Separate internal test traffic when possible
  • Investigate spikes that may come from bots
  • Connect link clicks with sessions and conversions at the destination
  • Record changes in analytics methods or plans

s.id analytics provides capabilities according to the current plan and platform processing method. Use unique clicks to understand patterns, not identity. For sales, rely on transaction status or lawfully collected customer data as the primary source.
