What Is a Microsite?

A microsite is a compact web experience built around one goal, audience, or campaign without requiring a large website.

A microsite is a small website or focused web page created for one specific purpose. It may introduce a creator, collect important links, support a campaign, present a catalog, accept registrations, or guide an audience toward one action.

Microsite vs Main Website

AspectMicrositeMain website
FocusOne campaign or goalBroad organizational information
StructureUsually one or a few compact pagesMany pages with deeper navigation
MaintenanceRelatively quick to updateRequires coordination across pages
Common useBio link, event, promotion, catalogCompany profile, documentation, complete services

A microsite is not automatically a replacement for a complete website. Choose one when visitors need to understand a single message and take one main action without navigating a large information architecture. Use a main website when content must be organized into many categories, needs deep search, or serves several goals at once.

Elements of an Effective Microsite

  1. A headline that states the benefit immediately
  2. Visual identity that is consistent with the brand
  3. Links or buttons in a clear order of priority
  4. Contact, product, or schedule information that stays current
  5. One primary call to action that is easy to find

With the s.id editor, a microsite can become a bio page, portfolio, digital catalog, or campaign landing page without writing code.
