What Is Conversion Rate?

Conversion rate compares the number of conversions with the relevant opportunities and expresses the result as a percentage.

Conversion rate is the percentage of relevant opportunities that result in a desired action. Its simple formula is:

Conversion rate = (number of conversions ÷ number of opportunities) × 100%

If 500 landing-page sessions produce 25 registrations, the session-based conversion rate is 5%. The denominator can instead be clicks, sessions, users, leads, or transactions, depending on the process being measured. A report should name its denominator so the result is not misinterpreted.

Why Can Results Differ?

One person may open a link repeatedly, one session may include many pages, and one order may contain several products. Tools can also use different attribution windows, deduplication methods, time zones, and consent rules. A conversion rate in link analytics may therefore not be directly comparable with a store or website report.

How to Read It Correctly

  1. Use the same conversion definition
  2. Keep the denominator and period consistent
  3. Separate channels, devices, or campaigns when useful
  4. Confirm that data volume is sufficient
  5. Compare with your own baseline
  6. Read the result with revenue, lead quality, and cost

There is no single good conversion rate for every business. Product, price, audience intent, channel, and checkout steps all affect the result. Improve CTA and landing-page clarity, remove unnecessary friction, and test changes incrementally.

s.id link analytics helps explain early interactions; final conversions still need to be recorded by the system where the action is completed.
