A dynamic QR code encodes an intermediary URL rather than the final content. The platform resolves that intermediary link to a destination when someone scans. If destination editing is supported and included in the account's plan, the owner can change the target without replacing the printed QR image.
Dynamic vs Static QR Codes
| Capability | Static QR | Dynamic QR |
|---|---|---|
| Stores final value directly | Yes | No |
| Uses an intermediary redirect | No | Yes |
| Destination can change | Requires a new code | Possible when the platform and plan allow it |
| Link-level activity | Not inherent | May be available through the redirect platform |
| Design options | Tool dependent | Tool dependent |
Dynamic does not automatically mean unlimited scans, complete analytics, every file format, or unrestricted editing. Those are separate product and plan decisions.
When a Dynamic Workflow Helps
Dynamic QR is useful for long-lived print whose destination may evolve: packaging that points to a current guide, signage linking to a seasonal page, business cards leading to an updated profile, or campaign materials that need a corrected destination. Avoid changing the target in a way that contradicts the label printed beside the code; the visitor should still receive what the placement promised.
How This Works in s.id
s.id QR codes are URL based and currently download as high-resolution PNG files. Destination editing is available on eligible plans. QR template allowances, logo and color options, analytics fields, reporting range, and retention vary by plan. Check the current subscription comparison before choosing a workflow for permanent print.
Measurement Boundary
The intermediary link can record available activity around the QR journey, but it does not prove that every request came from a physical scan or that the visitor completed an action. Create separate links for placements that require separate comparison. Use the destination form, CRM, booking, or commerce system for submissions, appointments, orders, and revenue.
Production Checklist
Download the PNG, place it at an appropriate size with a clear quiet zone, preserve contrast, add a readable fallback URL, and test the final artwork on multiple devices and distances. Keep the intermediary link active for as long as the printed material remains in circulation.
